reading too much Sandman? My dreams lately have been very powerful. I've woken up with lingering emotions from the nights events that have left me drained come morning. Is it possible that prince Morpheus is allowing me the pleasure of real dreams? Our dreams have always been windows to different states of reality. In my case, more often than not, they have relevance to my life. The power of the mind is truly a great thing. I find that my dreams often tackle things which I desire, giving me a taste of what could be. As the story says, the threshold of desire is an enormous portrait of a being. Its veins are endless corridors that one could wander through and not find what they seek in a lifetime. The source of it's power lies in the heart, which is something that we all know already. Desire is a fickle thing. We love desires as they give us motivation or drive. But here's the harsh part. Desire is always cruel, for it is always something out of our reach. So these dreams...they are outlets for venting desire. They throw our subconscious in to the pit of desire to see how we fair. If we come out as victors we at least know, in the waking world, whether we are capable of dealing with actually attaining our desires either physically, emotionally or mentally. I love that idea. Just think... You want some thing or some one or some answer. You go about using every last drop of energy in order to get it. But alas, you fail, and you are crushed. Or you get it and then realize that perhaps you got more than you bargained for. Suddenly what you wanted is not what you need, and you find yourself trapped in a situation where you won't let go simply because you don't want to waste the effort you made to get what you thought you wanted. Cruel desire...but deceptively merciful dreams. The gift of the dream is that you get to experience your quest in your mind. Upon waking you now have a better understanding of your mission. It is debatable that it is impossible to show yourself an unknown thing. I beg to differ. You know the classic falling dream right? That one where you are plummeting helplessly to what seems to be certain death, or at least a shit load of pain. We've all had it at some point. And it felt real. You could feel the invasion of proverbial butterflies in your chest. But you woke up and after the disorientation has passed you knew it was just a dream. But still, it felt so real. Your heart was probably still thumping. Now this next part is only applicable to those who have had a bad fall before. Those who lived the dream...Think as far back as your brain allows you to. You had the dream before you fell in real life didn't you. It could have been years before your tumble, but in your sleep you felt the exact same sensation as the real deal. So the question now is, how on earth did you manage to feel that without previous experience? It's a bit far fetched but I like to think that Lord Dream is preparing us for the trials of life.

What say you people? If you don't believe, at least you can jump on for a little mind warpage!

Warning! Bad taste ahead...

TK's Oriental Grill (Hyatt Regency, New Delhi) I have some strong criticism about you... It's not just because you've poisoned my body. There is a lot that people need to know about this sub-standard establishment. Here we go:

1) The food is terrible. If that's what is considered good food I might as well starve myself!
2) Heavily over priced and disproportionate to quantity.
3) Sushi is not fresh
4) Salmon was obviously frozen for waaaay to long.
5) I am now suffering as a res...ult of that poor excuse for a restaurant. Yes, it is personal!
6) Considering it is in a hotel that is on the verge of selling we really should know better.
7) In a description of the restaurant it was said that the seafood is acquired from the best "LOCAL" markets!!!! Need I say more. To be more clear, where is the sea in dehli???? Fresh much??!?!?!
8) What is sad is that people who review these places get paid off or otherwise just don't have a scooby doo clue about what decent food is! A fair review was this (and it is kind compared to me):

"TK stands for teppanyaki kitchen and there are seven grills. Whether
it's Japanese, Thai or Indonesian it's all cooked on the grills around
the restaurant. This is uninspiring and mediocre fare. The always
over-rated Benihana chain would be considered a gourmet delight by
comparison. If you're in the Hyatt in New Delhi and have a hankering
for Asian food give this place a pass and go for the far superior China
Kitchen, which is actually one of the best places to eat in the city."

Ladies and Gentlemen, please don't be fooled by that crap factory. You've been warned. Just because it's in a big hotel and is expensive, that doesn't mean it's good. I am slamming this place as part of an effort to enlighten people who are wasting good money on less than average food. Please don't be offended, ignore that voice of delhi which screams, expensive + "exotic" = good. Just imagine one day if you are entertaining someone who knows about food, a client perhaps, how much of a dick you will look like for taking them there under the pretense of good food. Here goes:

I'm in a big city in America somewhere. I haven't been to the states for almost a decade now, which is true. Anyway it is night time and I'm with my friend Rohan. We are on our way to a club. When we get there I meet another friend of mine, Jahanavi. We go inside and everyone keeps asking me where I'm from. Many people bump my shoulder aggressively as they pass me and generally give me dirty looks. I tell Jahanavi that we should go to this other place, she agrees with me. However I mention that I want to go get some cigarettes first. So I take off with Rohan, we get a cab and drive down this long road. Rohan steps out to get the smokes and suddenly the scene changes. I'm alone at this round about bus stand. I get on the bus and there is this leper type hobo sitting in front of me. He asks me what I'm doing here and doesn't look to happy with my presence. I tell him I'm trying to get to this club. He asks if I'm an Arab. The whole bus turns and looks at me. I explain that I'm from India and that it's a totally different scene. After much persuasion they get the idea and warm to me. I get off the bus and find myself on the long road again. Rohan is across the street chatting with a small group of people. I cross over and join them. Again I'm greeted with the same hostility and questioning as the bus. This group is a bunch of people my age who are out enjoying their night. Once again I explain the difference. and all is well. I'm kind of lost right now so I ask them for directions back to the club. We walk over to the divider in the middle of the road. It is a weird walk as we have to cross a number of traffic lights as not to J-walk, a concept that is totally lost on me. Finally after this elaborate sequence we get there. On the other side of the road there is a group of African American guys playing Basketball on a street court. They stop playing and stare at me menacingly. I look back at the group of people I'm with and continue listening to the directions. I peep backwards again and see that the group is now off the court and lingering on the street. They look to be a gang. I turn back. They guy explaining the route finishes and we start chatting about other stuff. I start talking about how weird it has been that everyone thinks that I'm some sort of terrorist or something. Just then I turn and one of the gang members in a red t-shirt is standing next to me. He say's one word. Something incoherent. I look down and see a gun in his hand. As I look up to his face he pulls the trigger. There is a deafening sound and I feel this numbing sensation from my guy. Like a deep pressure. There is no pain just this overwhelming sense of dullness. I fall to the ground face first. My face in a gutter and I am still. Everyone but Rohan scatters off in panic. Rohan leans down over me. I whisper and tell him I am okay and that it is just a flesh wound gone through my side. However I am afraid that if the guy who shot me see's I'm not dead he will shoot me again. I tell Rohan to go call for help. He goes to do so. I'm now lying completely still and the pain starts to set in. I dare not move though. I hear footsteps come toward me. I feel a foot against my side, it rolls me on to my back. The guy is standing over me pointing the gun again. Suddenly, in a manner that is best described as Frankensteinien or old school WWF Undertaker, I snap my eyes open and sit up. I snatch the gun from his hands and point it at him. For a moment I think that I'm going to squeeze the trigger. Lord knows that I wanted to. This man's ignorance shouldn't go unpunished. But instead I say, I AM NOT AN ARAB, and hand him his gun back. He stares at me blankly. The shock is apparent and guilt is now visible in his expression. The feeling I got was more powerful than then one I had when the gun was in my hand. Then I run. They chase me shouting "We're sorry!" but I don't stop. Then I wake up...

This description sounds pretty straightforward but what I felt in this dream was something else. The overall theme seemed to be ignorance and mistaken identity and explanations. There were a lot of subtle sensations and moments which I can't remember that made this one crazy trip of a dream. I don't know what it means. Despite knowing many Americans who are great people and nothing like the fools in my dreams, is it possible that deep down I am as ignorant as what others make them out to be? I have always thought I knew the difference. I would look down at those who would stereotype the people of America. At the same time I would make stupid comments when talking to others. However I've always been happy being a self declared walking contradiction. I guess we are all just the same at the end of the day. The other realisation I had was worse though. I know that this global terror thing has affected me on a subconscious level despite what I thought was distance. It has crept in to all our lives whether we like it, know it, or want it. That or this dream was just a product of various influences over the last few days. When I think about it, that is a the more probable possibility, and I can actually pull out the real events that were the ingredients to this dream. However if you think everything happens for a reason you could pull out another angle. I don't know. Either way it was a night well spent.

"I am accustomed to sleep and in my dreams to imagine the same things that lunatics imagine when awake."
- Rene Descartes

If the Ramayana was on Facebook

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; Frasier has just returned to Seattle and dumped Claire, a woman who seems perfect for him. They were recently in the Caribbean together. He did this because he found himself wanting another woman called Lana. On returning he goes to Lana only to find she is distraught because of the sudden return of her ex-husband. Frasier nobly advises here to speak to her ex despite his own feelings. He goes home later in a state of distress and finds his family totally unsympathetic, and something Martin (his dad) says particularly upsets him: "It isn't easy coming up with happy talk every time you can't make it work with a woman." Frasier takes a drive by himself to think about this, and his thoughts manifest themselves on screen as a discussion between him, several former partners, and even his late mother, as he searches for a reason why his relationships often
fail. His former partners are:

Lilith: His ex-wife and a Psychiatrist
Dianne: The woman who left him at the Alter
Nanette: His hippy first wife from long ago.

ACT 4

Scene 4 - The Crane family cabin.
It is the cabin last seen in [7.01], "Momma Mia." Frasier enters.
Frasier: Oh... Solitude. This is what I needed!

Diane enters.
Diane: Perhaps. But to quote Lord Byron, "It is in solitude where we
are least alone."

Lilith enters.

Lilith: Smells like dirt out there. [seeing the cabin's interior] Whoa!

Nanette enters.
Nanette: Before Frasier sold out, we always dreamed of having a home
like this - where we'd be surrounded by nature and need only
the food that we grew and the shelter of each other's arms.
Lilith: [drily] It's amazing that marriage didn't work out.
Diane: [aside to Lilith] She was probably great in the sack.
Nanette: Actually, I made a lot of distracting noises.
Frasier: All right, all right. [closes door] This has been a lot of fun,
but what's it going to take to get you people out of my head?
Lilith: Well, a little self-examination might do it.
Frasier: Fine! I'm a failure in love. [throws a bag into the kitchen/
pantry] I failed with all of you. I failed with Lana and with
Claire, and with countless others in between. Happy?
Lilith: Failure is a result, not a cause. What's at the core?
Frasier: Perhaps there is no core. Maybe fate's just conspiring
against me. Did you ever think of that?
Lilith: No, there's no such thing as fate.
Nanette: [now knitting on the couch] Ha! If that were true, there'd be
no such thing as astrology!
Lilith: [glancing dismissively at Nanette] More avoidance, Frasier.
Try to focus!
Diane: I just had a thought! [Frasier approaches her, listening
eagerly.] Maybe it isn't Frasier's fault.
Lilith: Oh, denial, how nice to see you. [Frasier glares at her.]
Diane: Frasier.
Frasier: Hmm?
Diane: It's your women! We leave you. It's in our nature. I left
you.
Frasier: Yes. You did! You left me for Sam.
Diane: [dreamily] I left Sam, too.
Lilith: Diane, we're talking about Frasier. When we're inside your
head, we'll talk about you.

Diane is now wearing a painter's smock, holding a paint-covered
palette, and working on an unfinished portrait on an easel. The
portrait is of Sam Malone.
Diane: I'm just saying that his women leave. [to Lilith] You did, too.
Nanette: So did I!
Frasier: That's right! You all did.
Diane: Oh, and poor Frasier. You keep on trying.
Nanette: He can't help it! He's a hopeless romantic.

Frasier indicates that he wants Diane to go on.
Diane: Frasier, when are you going to learn? [sings] "Falling in love
with love is falling for make-believe..."

Diane continues to sing behind the following dialogue.
Nanette: What's wrong with following your heart? Just because we left
him doesn't mean the perfect woman isn't out there somewhere.

Frasier sits on a footstool.
Lilith: That's the problem. Frasier thinks every woman is the
perfect woman until he finds the deal-breaking flaw.
[distracted by Diane's singing] You-, we... [to Frasier]
Can you make that stop?
Frasier: I'm sorry. It's stuck in my head.
Diane: [singing] "I realized that I was unable to sing..."

Frasier stands and puts a hand to his forehead. Diane stops.
Lilith: Thank you. [Diane looks put upon.] It's that quest for
perfection which ultimately defeats you, because the
perfect woman does not exist.
Hester: [o.s.] Speak for yourself!

Another woman, the late Hester Crane, appears behind Frasier.
Frasier: MOTHER!
Hester: [referencing the three women] For such a short trip, you sure
brought a lot of baggage!
Frasier: What are you doing here?
Lilith: You have to ask? You're a Freudian.

Frasier sits at the table, his head spinning.
Hester: You've spent your whole life trying to replace me, but it's
completely understandable. I was your first love.
Lilith: Ladies, meet the competition. [indicating Hester] This is the
woman against whom we have all been measured.
Frasier: [interrupting her] Lilith, will you please be quiet! Mother
is speaking!
Hester: So, a lifetime of collecting women and this is the cream of
the crop: the slacker, the barmaid, and the icicle. I was so
relieved when they left you.
Diane: You left him too!
Hester: Oh, I had no choice. Perhaps you heard? I died. Now, let's
get down to work, shall we? [moves to the couch]
Lilith: We were doing perfectly well before you got here.
Hester: Well, if your bargain-basement psychiatry was so effective,
why did he have to call in the big guns? [sits] Now, let's
explore the inner recesses of your psyche like we did when
you were a boy. [indicates her knee]
Frasier: I don't want to!

As Hester begins to speak, Frasier approaches the couch, lies on it,
and puts his head on Hester's lap.
Hester: Perhaps we should start with the premise set forth in the
definitive study done by Harlan and Watkins.
Lilith: Oh, excuse me, but the definitive study was done ten years
later at Cambridge.
Hester: Oh, excuse me for not keeping up. I was busy being dead!
Nanette: That's her excuse for everything!
Hester: Don't you have a tambourine to bang?

Nanette cowers in fear.
Diane: Don't feel bad. She tried to kill me once.
Hester: Oh, not this paranoia again!
Diane: You had a gun.
Hester: Frasier, don't listen to them. These women are all liars and
cheaters. I'm the only woman you can trust.
Diane: You're a fine one to talk! You cheated on Martin.
Hester: Oh, that's none of your beeswax, Missy!
Lilith: Oh, betrayal by the mother. Is there any deeper wound?
Hester: [stands] I'd say sleeping with his brother is right up
there!
Diane: [gasps, to Lilith] You did?!
Hester: Mmm-hmm!
Diane: [fantasizing] Ooh, I could see that.

Frasier is horrified.
Diane: Don't even think about my baby like that!
Nanette: You can't control her thoughts.
Hester: Oh, shut up, you're a whore.
Nanette: [stands] You're a hypocrite!
Hester: Whore!
Nanette: Hypocrite!
Hester: Whore!
Nanette: Hypocrite! You're all hypocrites!
Hester: And you're all whores!

The four of them begin to loudly scream at each other all at once.
Lilith: Stop it! Stop it! Stop it! Don't you see what he's doing?
He's pitting us against each other in order to avoid the real
conflict within himself. We must work together.

The others respond with "Right," "I agree," etc. They converge on
Frasier.
Hester: What is the problem? Why can't you make it work with a woman?
Diane: Is it because they leave you?
Nanette: Have you stopped listening to your heart?
Lilith: Is it your unrealistic expectations?
Frasier: I don't know. [gets off the couch and runs to the door] Leave
me alone! I don't want to do this!

He opens the door and gasps. There is a score of women crowded in the
doorway. "Hi, Frasier," they all say. He closes the door behind him
in a state of utter panic.
Diane: What is it?
Frasier: It's every woman I've ever dated!

Frasier: What am I going to do?
Hester: Now, son. I know this is frightening for you, but you have to
do the work.
Frasier: [gives in] Okay... [walks back to the center of the room] Okay.
[sits on the couch] Fine. All right. I screwed things up
with Lana. But wait, that wasn't my fault. She was still
in love with her ex-husband.
Lilith: No, Lana is not the problem.
Hester: No, she wasn't right for you at all.
Frasier: Oh, mother, you would say that. You never approved of any of
my relationships.
Hester: Don't pin this on me. I liked Claire.
Diane: Oh, she was perfect for you.
Nanette: Everybody thought so.
Hester: So why didn't it work out?
Lilith: Maybe because she was just right for you.
Frasier: What does that mean?
Hester: Well, Claire was everything we ever looked for in a woman.
Lilith: And that terrified you.
Diane: Because inevitably she would have left you.
Nanette: And so, of course, you ran away.
Frasier: No, no, no. I left Claire because I discovered I had feelings
for Lana.
Lilith: You created feelings for Lana...
Hester: Who was extremely flawed...
Lilith: So you'd have an excuse to leave Claire.
Frasier: Yes, but I didn't need an excuse. I didn't love her!
Lilith: You didn't want to love her.
Hester: She was too good.
Diane: And that's why you were afraid.
Frasier: All right, you're saying that I'm afraid of a good woman?
Hester: You're afraid of losing a good woman. Again.

And just like that, Frasier gets it. He is silent for a moment.
Frasier: So that's it... all this work, just to find out that I have a
fear of rejection?
Lilith: That's right.
Frasier: [beside himself] So I'm alone... because I'm afraid to be
alone?!
Diane: Don't feel too bad. You'll always have us. Isn't that right,
girls?

They begin to speak at once, agreeing with Diane.
Frasier: All right, wait a minute!

They become silent. Frasier now has a tremendous moment of revelation.
He rises and paces the room.
Frasier: That's it! That's my problem. You are always there. I have
carried you with me throughout every relationship, on every
date. You pick apart every woman I care about and you remind
me how much it'll hurt if I open myself up. You don't help me.
You hold me back. How will I ever move forward if I don't put
you behind me...?

He looks behind him. The four women have all disappeared. He looks
around again, realizes that his epiphany was real, and smiles.

*****************

Tiger Woods at His Press Conference

My dad forwarded this to me recently. It is certainly a must read:

*****************

Let me just say to all my fans that I feel sorry for everyone who criticized me for my extra-marital affairs. You must live a miserable existence if you have nothing better to do than read about my personal life in the tabloids. But I suppose I should provide an explanation about my behavior so that you will continue to buy the products I endorse.

So here goes. I am an average looking man of mixed racial descent. Like most men, I had trouble getting pussy before I became a famous multimillionaire. I did okay at Stanford because I was on the golf team, but the women there graded out with a D because they were leftovers that players on the football team didn't want. Before that, I got nothing because I have a bland personality and big lips.

Then, I win a few golf tournaments and women are lining up at my door. Of course, I took advantage of my opportunities. These were women who wouldn't give me the time of day if I sold insurance or worked on a used car lot. They wanted me so they could brag to their friends about having sex with a celebrity, while holding the belief that one day they would live a life of luxury as the wife of Tiger Woods. When that didn't happen, they seized on an opportunity to sell their story to the tabloids, all the while looking the part of a woman scorned.

Now I want to discuss my wife. When I met Elin, she was just like the others, except she played the hard-to-get strategy that women often use to corral men. It worked. She had all the qualities I wanted in a woman: pretty face, nice tits, nice ass, and an inviting personality. We dated for a while, had wild sex, and we genuinely enjoyed others company. When I asked her to marry me, she accepted. Why wouldn't she? Only an idiot would say no to a lavish lifestyle that most people only dream about.

Our marriage was okay. We have two wonderful children and Elin is a good mother. But since she had those kids, she's become a bitch, and doesn't want to have sex very often. And, she won't accompany me on road trips, except to the major championships. Unfortunately, my job requires that I travel to a different city every week where women nod approvingly at me where ever I go. Do you see the problem here?

To all the men out there: What would you have done in my shoes? Would you have said no to all the woman who lined up to meet you, especially after listening to your wife bitch at you over the telephone for not spending enough time at home with her and the kids? And to all the women: How many of you would have turned down an opportunity to spend a night with me, knowing that you could sell your story to a tabloid for 500K?

I feel bad about the potential damage my actions might cause my kids. As for Elin, I can think of at least 300 million reasons why she will be okay if we divorce and she is forced to survive on her own. And don't forget that vast support network she will have after appearing on Oprah and Fox.

As for me, I have paid dearly for my transgressions. I have lost millions and might lose custody of my children. A good number of you take great pleasure seeing me in pain.

The letters "Saint" or "St." do not precede my name.

Did I become famous for being a model married man, or was it because I'm the best damn golfer in the world???

Now here I stand, while you sit there anxiously waiting to hear my heartfelt apology, when all I really want to tell you is ... Fuck Off!

Avatar Loss Theory

A must read article for all those who think Avatar was robbed:

Elites get their way

Hank Moody on Women

A great quote by a great character. It aptly describes a thought process that I have had and that many men do.

" It’s my purgatory, really, inner drinks, whatever. I’m never really all that interested, but I find myself telling her how beautiful she is anyway. ‘Cause it’s true, all women are, in one way or another. You know, there’s always something about every damn one of you, it’s a smile, a curve, a secret. You ladies really are the most amazing creatures, my life’s work. But then there’s the morning after, a hangover, and the realization that I’m not quite as available as I thought I was the night before. So here's a thought for you:

Sadly as we get older the effects of past deeds become more apparent in a physical sense. Remember when you thought you could eat, drink or smoke whatever you wanted to and nothing would happen? That feeling of being unbreakable has begun to pass. I now lack 2 organs which the doctors said I wouldn't need. It's true, but hardly accurate. The missing gall bladder means heavy meals are digested in excess. My innards are uncomfortable from time to time. This ignorance of indestructibility is something that we all have and inevitably lose, thankfully. Man struggles to keep things in check. Apparently it's near impossible to be entirely fulfilled due to our own conflicting ideals (Those based on what we've been led to believe anyhow). Personally I find myself entirely lost in my own yearnings. The human brain is a baffling thing. It can, and usually will manifest whatever you sub consciously need. Whether you want it to or not is irrelevant. Tell me if this sounds familiar:

You want something...badly. You decide that you 'want' to do whatever it takes to get it. You can picture it all working out in your head. The concept of it all seems flawless after enough thought. Now it's time for action. But wait! Suddenly all your efforts are useless. The opportunity never comes by whether you've made an effort or not. Either that or you become disheartened by repeated failures. So rationally you decide to abandon said goal. Then comes the universal twist (OR the omnipotent extend-able bitch leash). This is that little thing or motivation that keeps you hooked on your seemingly hopeless task. So you pull your shit together and stick to your guns. All the while telling yourself lies to pacify the screaming voice of common sense. Now you have drive once again and the cycle begins again.

So now what? Are we doomed to repeat the same mistakes over and over again on this treacherous road to desire? My theory is that it's a tolerance factor. There is just so much that one person can take when it comes to failure to achieve. Once you hit that level the power of the mind kicks in. Think of it as internal self preservation. Man wants. Man can't get. Man doesn't give up. Yes yes very poetic in theory. But what is actually happening is that you are slowly losing confidence with each failure. And confidence is vital. Without it you are pretty much screwed. So the sub conscious surfaces temporarily to show you what you need to see. And it's not always a pleasant experience mind you!

My experience happened last night. New years eve of all times. My life has been coming together somewhat after quite some time of, lets call it 'in the airness'. I was genuinely enjoying myself at a small house party. I had intoxicated myself with the usual cocktail of wastedness. All was going well and I had a plan (details i'm afraid are too personal even for my own blog) which I was hoping to finally follow through. The end result of this plan was that I would get something that I have desired for longer than I care to admit. The party dwindled on and I felt the time to execute the plan draw near. And then it happened. Out of nowhere I started freaking out. Not your ordinary panic attack or paranoid moment, but true fear. Turns out my past experiments with chemicals had come back to haunt me. A full on flashback. What was terrible was that no one could understand what I was going through. I was alone and afraid of myself, and trust me that is a downright terrible place to be. Not to mention various objects changing their tint and shape in to frightening things. It goes without saying that the plan was out the window by now. I eventually calmed down with little comfort from my friends. Not that they didn't try, but they couldn't help because they couldn't understand. Also I didn't say anything because in truth I didn't want to be "that guy who fucked up new years". I spent the rest of the night in a daze, lost in thought and insecurity. Why in gods name would this happen NOW of all times? The answer wasn't clear till the next day. What I thought I wanted really wasn't what I needed, just what I thought I did. I had been so blinded by years of want that I never stopped to consider if my emotions matched my rationality. Think of it like wanting the sun because it's the most amazing and beautiful thing you have ever seen. So you start the long journey to get to it by creating a structure that would take you that far. You build and build and build with all your heart. But wait a minute. You never stopped to consider that the sun is far to hot to have. You never realised that all that would end up happening is you would get burned. You could never truly have the sun because it can not be contained. One day, maybe with time and technological advancement you could manage this. But not now. For now you have to just sit back and enjoy the view. And it is still beautiful. So as for me I'm gonna sit back, get on with the rest of my life and wait till the rays decide to shine upon me with a reciprocating glow. If not there's always the moon right?

Happy New Years everyone
:)

<a href="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3282/2822709866_0cf5db8f24.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; There I was in the graphic novel and kids fiction section aimlessly flicking through piles of the DC universe. It's actually amazing how much superman and batman have accomplished over the years! Anyhow, as I scanned the shelves I found myself bored quite fast. I wanted something original. And to my despair I couldn't find it. I thought I came close with "The Fire Theif" (A comical adaptation of the story of Prometheus) but I knew how that one ended. And then there its was, Malice. It stuck out of the shelf in more ways than one. The cover was bold and simple with a brilliantly drawn fiend on the front. To make life even more exciting this fiend actually protruded from the face of the book. I reached for it with a cheesy "don't judge a book by its cover" bell ringing in my head. "A quick read of the blurb me thinks" said I. This is what followed:

“TALL JAKE, TAKE ME AWAY…”
Everyone’s heard the rumors. Call on Tall Jake and he’ll take you to Malice, a world that exists inside a horrifying comic book. A place most kids never leave. Seth and Kady think it’s all a silly myth. But then their friend disappears, and suddenly the rumors don’t seem so silly after all...

Right, well that's simple enough, sounds quite interesting. But perhaps not enough to hook me in. And then comes the next line...

PART NOVEL, PART GROUND-BREAKING COMIC.
MALICE
You can't escape.

BOOM! Well that's different. A flick through and I was sold. Card out...swipe...bag it. If any one needs me I'll be on the couch. By the next afternoon I was done. And honestly if it weren't for that damn sleep thing I'd have finished already. Let me just begin by saying this. Not that I'm any fossil, but I don't remember kids books being this scary. This book was in a section titled "Fiction ages 9-14" so I wasn't ready for it. Basically the author, Chris Wooding, has conjured up an dangerous world that exists beyond this one. A comic book that children are actually abducted and put in to. It is written in an easy to read style that brings out the imagery on a raw level that truly captivates the imagination. You can use all the fancy words you like and still fall short of his descriptions of being immersed in total darkness. The whole hybrid novel/comic thing worked well. Breaking up the action and showing you the bits that you'd rather see than read. What is great is that they haven't picked the most visual parts or the most important parts to make into the comic bits. Just enough to show you what Malice is like without forcing your mind to conform to any set style. The flow and feel never gets interrupted by this experiment. In fact all my favourite parts were written, which left my crazy grey matter have its way with itself. The characters are solid and consistent in their traits and internal philosophies without letting you (the reader) forget that they are just kids caught up in something that is beyond normal. I honestly loved it all. It's hard to write a review without spoilers, so I'm not going to try. I don't want you to read this through my eyes. I want you all, if you choose, to experience Malice the way I did. Unprepared and continuously excited. So if you get the chance, pick it up. You won't be disappointed but you will be entertained, and a little scared if you care to admit!

Mindless Writing: What is my point here? A flow of words released in to this world through nothing but randomness. To have a point is not the purpose. To want one is real. To attain one is easy. Yet to prove one is rare. In this consciousness I find my point is nothing. Perhaps I should search for something more tangible to think and write about. But why is this any less important than that, and why should I, nay anyone give a shit? Its not my place to give you answers. Its only my place to write. To write, to write nothingness. It all seems to make sense in a pointless sort of way doesn't it? But then again I wasn't really asking for an opinion was I? Although you might now feel like giving me an answer. Its up to you. I'm not sure what I'm trying to say. Nothing really I guess. So maybe I have made my point...strange folk live in this world. If you love dogs, you will love this film. And this is also the first time I've seen such a high quality of detail from a disney picture. Great stuff. If you have a dog you'll be amazed at how well they've mimiced the movements with pixels. John Travolta lending his voice doesn't hurt either. Plus its just ridiculously unbelievably cute. I like it. It is in essence a blog post so why not bring it back for an encore eh?

Here are some things to ponder:

- Drugs have taught an entire generation of American kids the metric system

- If God dropped acid, would he see people?

- Anyway, no drug, not even alcohol, causes the fundamental ills of society. If we're looking for the source of our troubles, we shouldn't test people for drugs, we should test them for stupidity, ignorance, greed and love of power.

- Did you know America ranks the lowest in education but the highest in drug use? It's nice to be number one, but we can fix that. All we need to do is start the war on education. If it's anywhere near as successful as our war on drugs, in no time we'll all be hooked on phonics

- Avoid all needle drugs - the only dope worth shooting is President Bush

- Drugs may be the road to nowhere, but at least they're the scenic route

- I've never had a problem with drugs. I've had problems with the police. ~Keith Richards

- God made pot. Man made beer. Who do you trust?

- Cocaine is God's way of saying you're making too much money

- They lie about marijuana. Tell you pot-smoking makes you unmotivated. Lie! When you're high, you can do everything you normally do, just as well. You just realize that it's not worth the fucking effort. There is a difference.

- Annual drug deaths: tobacco: 395,000, alcohol: 125,000, 'legal' drugs: 38,000, illegal drug overdoses: 5,200, marijuana: 0. Considering government subsidies of tobacco, just what is our government protecting us from in the drug war?

So what to say now? Do you consider someone to be a bad person because they take drugs? Is it not too much to ask that you respect someones choices? I respect the fact that some countries think its ok to cut off someones hands for stealing. I dont agree with it and Im sure there are many others out there who believe that disabling a human being is barbaric. But its a choice made by people and I dont see any opposition. To each his own. Its your body not the governments at the end of the day. So where's your civilized world now? Do you consider anyone on drugs to be unable to make the "right" choice? If so what if you discovered that many of the men who wrote the Declaration of Independence or the Bible were on drugs of some kind. Would you freak out and restructure the fabric of modern society because their judgement was comprimised by drugs? The answer would be NO of course. And why would the answer be no? Maybe its because it would be very dissrupting and inconvinient to life generally. But drastic measures have been taken before eg. the Nazis. It is because we are happy with the world as it is. So there you go. Live and let live and love a little too.
Peace

MOVIE REVIEW: New Moon

So I went for a pre-release screening of New Moon last night in Bombay, and let me tell you something. I was pleasantly surprised, really. To the extent that it has inspired me to start a blog and let this be my inaugural post. I felt really bad that I had been a testosterone filled sheep and slandered the production, for no real reason. I enjoyed the first one, so why shouldn't I look forward to the sequel right? Well I figured it out. It was how excited women got. Now there's nothing wrong with that. But what happened is that the hype was so powerful that I forgot all about where the story was going to go. And it started to annoy me because I saw that it was breaking records despite bad reviews. And I don't know why, but I hate it when bad movies do well for the "wrong" reasons (yes opinions are personal, let me finish). There are other people out there making great films and loosing all the limelight. Then I start to get annoyed about the business of movies. At the end of the day, for the majority, it's about the money.

So there you have it I now had this idea that New Moon was some rubbish movie that is doing great because of some hot guys. Is the world really that shallow? (probably, but that's a topic best saved for another blog eh?) I was now led to the conclusion that this bunch can't act and its all about the looks. And I was wrong, single mindedness gets the better of me sometimes. And for that I might be sorry.

So now down to my review:

If there's one thing to be said it's that you must be open to this movie. As with most films it has its ups and downs. But the bad here wasn't so bad that it overpowered the good. And what I call bad wasn't actually bad. It was just cheesy. And that too was all part of the experience of watching the movie in the cinema. From hearing the 12-18 year olds squealing when Jacob gets topless to the jittery whispers of "oh my god..*giggle giggle". Point being you can focus on the film without being distracted by what you know the girly girls are loving, yet you are aware. Fun.

The action was decent, enough to keep even the steroid lovers relativley focused. There wasn't actually half as much of body display as I thought there would be, which was a relief. Direction was slightly weak in the sense that it wasn't consistent. The begining of the movie had a very different look and feel to the end, but not in an intentional manner. The wolf effects needed a bit of work though. Except for their mouths they looked far to cgi. I can't remember why, I think it was the lack of lighting effects.

Now to the actors.

Kristen Stewart (Bella Swan) is by far the strongest of the lot. As opposed to the first film she brings out the Bella's angst realistically. And she definitely got hotter. Not much more to say about her performance. It was solid.

Robert Pattinson (Edward Cullen) is still dark (yet pale) and brooding in his own charming manner.A bit to much red eye at points. A makeup problem not his fault. Though it did make him accidentally look like he'd come off a serious coke binge at times. By far the strongest male actor. He's done a good job.

Taylor Lautner (Jacob Black) was the one that I had the initial issue with. I presumed he couldn't act. And I wasn't entirely wrong. But that's not his fault. The poor chap has been exploited for his body. A smart move on the studio's part because he obviously has had training since part 1, but due to his age he is not able to give the character the full maturity it deserved. However the 6 pack provides a fair distraction from those issues (You can't fool me though!) This said, its not like he did a bad job though. Its only bad if it comes across as genuinely shite, which it didn't. He acts decently but has gaps where his lack of experience is apparent. Also there were some scenes, and I say this in earnest because its true, where he is flexing so hard that his acting becomes stiff. You can see it in his hands. Again, probably not his fault.

Well I don't care that much for this movie that I'm gonna review the rest of the cast. Although a special mention for Ashley Greene (Alice Cullen) who has also upped her game since last time and is now more than "just really jumpy"

So there you have it folks. I belittled the buggers before but now I take it back.
